Oil Rebounds After IEA Stock-Release Decision, Weakening the Case for Lasting Price Relief
Reuters reports that oil prices settled lower after the IEA agreed to accelerate an oil-stock release, meaning stored oil would enter the market sooner.
Separate market data from Yahoo Finance via yfinance show a different move as of October 8, 2026. Brent crude stood at $103.57 per barrel, up 3.36% over one day and 1.23% over one week. WTI crude was $90.86 per barrel, up 2.92% over one day but down 2.16% over one week.
An accelerated release can increase available supply sooner and ease immediate price pressure, which is consistent with the lower settlement reported by Reuters. The subsequent daily gains in both benchmarks, however, mean the evidence does not yet support a lasting decline. That interpretation would change if later Brent and WTI data showed renewed declines that persisted below the quoted levels.
